I thought it would be a good idea to list some basic tips you can follow to increase website traffic and search engine rankings.

Create a site with valuable content, products or services.
Place primary and secondary keywords within the first 25 words in your page content and spread them evenly throughout the document.
Research and use the right keywords/phrases to attract your target customers.
Use your keywords in the right fields and references within your web page. Like Title, META tags, Headers, etc.
Keep your site design simple so that your customers can navigate easily between web pages, find what they want and buy products and services.
Submit your web pages i.e. every web page and not just the home page, to the most popular search engines and directory services. Hire someone to do so, if required. Be sure this is a manual submission. Do not engage an automated submission service.
Keep track of changes in search engine algorithms and processes and accordingly modify your web pages so your search engine ranking remains high. Use online tools and utilities to keep track of how your website is doing.
Monitor your competitors and the top ranked websites to see what they are doing right in the way of design, navigation, content, keywords, etc.
Use reports and logs from your web hosting company to see where your traffic is coming from. Analyze your visitor location and their incoming sources whether search engines or links from other sites and the keywords they used to find you.
Make your customer visit easy and give them plenty of ways to remember you in the form of newsletters, free reports, reduction coupons etc.
Demonstrate your industry and product or service expertise by writing and submitting articles for your website or for article banks so you are perceived as an expert in your field.
When selling products online, use simple payment and shipment methods to make your customer's experience fast and easy.
When not sure, hire professionals. Though it may seem costly, but it is a lot less expensive than spending your money on a website which no one visits.

2. Make sure that your visitors don't feel that you just want to grab their money

Writing Blog Comments Equals Free Targeted Traffic

You may be overlooking a free source of targeted traffic and not know it. Leaving comments on blogs can bring you great free targeted traffic. Not just from the back link that you can leave which helps with your ranking in the search engines but also from people clicking on that link.

There is a strategy that you'll have to employ though. I'm not talking about spamming blogs though. Don't ever do that. Spamming sucks. If you have a blog you'll know what I'm talking about. Spamming is wrong so don't do it. Now I got that out of the way, let's see how we can get that fee targeted traffic.

If you don't already have blogs that you subscribe to, go to Google or your favorite search engine and type in your niche. Be sure to include the word blog or blogs (example: cat blogs). You can do a search for each of your keywords as well. If you have a cat web site you could do searches for cat blog, cat lover blog, cat toys blog, cat food blog etc. This way any traffic is going to be automatically targeted to your niche.

So how is that traffic going to get to your site? Most blog comments allow you to create a link to a web site. The usual comment form will include your name, email, web site and comment areas. When you type in a web site your name will be made into a link to your web site in that comment. It's a beautiful thing.

The important thing when finding a blog to comment on is to find one you really want to comment on. You can't write a comment like "Good post. Enjoyed it." That is not going to get you traffic. In order to get someone to click on your link you have to give them a reason. This is done by writing good relevant content in your comment. Make your comment relevant to the post and interesting to the reader and they will click your link.

Something else you want to look at when posting comments is how old the post is. If the post is more than a couple months old don't worry about it. Most times if they are that old they are lost underneath the more recent posts. Focus on the posts that are on the first or second page of the blog. These posts will get the most views over time.

Get in the habit of posting comments on blogs everyday. The more links you have out there the better. Also try to post on the same blogs. This will grow a relationship with the author of the blog as well as the visitors to that blog. The more people see you the more comfortable they will be with you and see you as an expert thus clicking on that link all the more.

There is a great piece of software that can help you find blogs in your niche. It's called Comment Hut. I use this to find blogs to comment on. It searches Google for blogs with the keyword you choose and looks to see if they accept comments. Then it will also look up what the Google Page Rank is. Similarly there are many websites looking for articles. There are many active mailing lists that can help you send your articles to thousands of interested publishers; for instance if you go to Yahoo Groups and search for "free articles" or something similar you will come across scores of mailing lists.

Subscribe to the ones with very high number of subscribers and then write some short and crisp articles and submit them to the mailing lists and see your traffic increasing in just a few weeks. You can also independently approach webmasters if you know they accept content from other writers.

Keep in touch with your previous clients

Right now most of my work comes from my previous clients, but in my case I'm not promoting my work to new clients because I want to focus on some of my personal projects. The best placement for Google ads varies from page to page, depending on content. Here are a few questions to ask yourself when considering where to position your ads:

What is the user trying to accomplish by visiting my site?
What do they do when viewing a particular page?
Where is their attention likely to be focused?
How can I integrate ads into this area without getting in the users' way?
How can I keep the page looking clean, uncluttered and inviting?

Certain locations tend to be more successful than others. This "heat map" illustrates these ideal placements on a sample page layout. The colors fade from dark orange (strongest performance) to light yellow (weakest performance). All other things being equal, ad placements above the fold tend to perform better than those below the fold. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids usually do well because users are focused on those areas of a page.

While this heat map is useful as a positioning guideline, we strongly recommend putting your users first when deciding on ad placement. Think about their behavior on different pages, and what will be most useful and visible to them. You'll find that the most optimal ad position isn't always what you expect on certain pages.

I think its very subjective to answer it. OK, i ask you 1 question, when you surf somebody website, you will like it when its beautiful or in ugly design condition?..I bet you will love the nice design right?..

OK, I will show you a few free blog free template available over the internet. But, I already modified the template to put adsense code on every page wherever might be useful to increase your adsense earning.

For example my current blog, whereby I used an adsense code inside my post wherever i like. Take a look at a snapshot.

3.Interaction of Content and Community
Every article that is written by a community member gets a link on the main page for 2 weeks (i use a blog software as front page which has the advantage of making it very easy to update, an archive for a nice sitemap and the article gets spidered extremely fast by the engines) and an ego boost for the member who has written the article...

Members Blog; because i offer a blog for special members (which surprisingly allot of them are using) most of the time i only have to link to the members blog for the recognition and the link juice stays within the domain...

Every article we write gets thrown into the forum for discussion, that way the article gets dissected, improved and often a spin off article is produced by a community member...

I check regulary my access logs for search phrases people arrive on my site but without having the exact content for it, (search engines are not perfect), once i have identified such a phrase, i start a thread about it, and once you are big enough and you have a dedicated community, chances are that either a popular thread or even a content with the exact phrase is the end result, hence making the previous top ranking search phrase a self fulfilling prophecy.

Using members as watch dogs; Everyone knows big content sites are the target of scrapers, copyright violations etc..
I explained once the ramifications and that we had to protect "our" content, now i get almost daily mails or posts about sites that are using our content, some are even contacting the owner of those particular sites, complaining about the infrigement...

To summarize; My content part is now basically community driven, i hardly have to write any articles myself, all i have to do is to give directions...

4.Monetizing the community
As i mentioned previously, the niche is very low paying and if it wasnt a labour of love, i would never have bothered, but 3 years later this "low paying niche" is one of the biggest money maker of all of my sites...

I made it from the start very clear that at the end of the day i would like to make money in order to maintain not only the quality of the forum/site but also to be able to give back to the community. This open approach was very well received and clearly understood.

Adsense; This was the first real money that poured into the site, while the earning per clicks were rather poor, the amount of clicks made some up for it and it made it actually possible to start giving back to the community. However the content sites were getting much more EPC, so my focus was right from the start making the community produce content pages.

Amazon; In my niche, books play a significant role; thats why i put on evey article an on topic amazon product link. I made it clear in the TOS that i will add my amazon affiliate code in every book title that gets mentioned in the forum, again this is understood and no problems, i actually have my moderators to do this for me, they have my affiliate code and know how to make a static amazon link with my referal Id. I have a most popular book of the month section, and a book review section, the book reviews from forum members are generating the most money from amazon, people trust people they know...

Demographic Monetization; The moment i realized that with trying to make money with my niche wont get me very far, but trying to monetize the demographics of my visitors i had a winner. While the niche might be relatively small and the potential to earn real money from that are remote, the people that visit the site have one thing in common, they are mostly highly educated and have lots of disposable income. I actually figured that only out once YPN came on board. Suddenly i had ads that were not really targeted to the content, but that paid so much more then what the contextual correct ads from Adsense were paying. My focus shifted then from monetizing the content to monetizing my visitors.

OK, here what i found at webmaster forum discussion. I am copy and paste it here for you to read on How to make people to post to your Forum site.

1.Get more people to sign up
I placed on all of my content sites a little line at the end of the article that says "If you would like to discuss "name topic" join our forum and share your ideas...

I made a News section in the forum were only the headline and the first sentence is visible for people that are not signed in...

I put the most interesting thread of the week on the front page...

I contacted "superstars" of my niche (Authors, Scholars etc..) to post in my forum (the time just before or after they published a book is a good time as they are more willing to do so and most of the time for free...

Another way to make people sign up is to get the "opposition" to come to your forum, for example if you have a fan forum for "Manchester United" I would start a thread like "10 reasons why Chelsea sucks", then i would go to a Chelsea fan forum sign up there as a huge Chelsea fan and would post something like "have you seen those suckers over there what they talk about us?", some people will most propably register at your forum just to bash your views on Chelsea ;) This brings me to my next point how to make them post, now that you have a regular stream of sign ups...

2. How to make them post
The Daily News section; this is at my place the most viewed subforum, but relatively few replies, nevertheless, some will reply...

The content pages error forum; One section is for errors, (factual and typo) you will be surprised how many people will make a post just to get a typo corrected (and it helps to keep the content part as error free as possible...

Promoting as early as possible the most active quality members to moderators; This is a very special point, a moderator will not only moderate but will post many quality posts...

Rewards; The most successful part of getting people to post on this particular forum was the introduction of Usergroups based on participation. Everyone starts as a guest (in my case they are not called guests but something not realy nice (nothing derogatory but nevertheless no one wants to be called that in my niche", so already i get some posts why the heck they are "fill in your term"! They have some restriction, (no signature, no avatar (again posts why this is not working), after 10 posts they are automatically promoted to full member, which gives them rights to have avatars, signature and a nicer usergroup name :)

The next Usergroup is the bulk of my members, to get to the next lever one has to participate for at least 3 months, must have several high quality posts and the admins/mod then decide if this particular should be promoted to the next level, he gets then a personal mail congratulating him and he gets access to more features (own blog on the site, personal email adress, own picture gallery)

People in that usergroup are sometimes promoted to the highest Level, to get there one has to write articles for the content site, if they are well written they will then be promoted to this particular level, with access to a special member section and a freebies like books etc..

Now why want people to get promoted? Well people (at least in my niche)love to get free books, so many work (post) really hard and lots just to get to that "VIP" level

Giveaway; We give allot to the community for free, actually almost 30% of our income goes back to the quality members, this creates a constant stream of new content (almost every book is rewied by the member and then published on the content site in the book review section), I also alway contact the author about the review, many just say thank you, but many also start participating in the forum...

Well, consider this, how about you run a classified website on your own? Is it sound interesting?. Imagine how many people will vist your site to post their ads into your classified webpage. And its depends on youe web popularity. At the moment, concentrate to niche market, local market, your own country market for classified web.

Nowadays blogs are important communication tools. Thanks to the simplicity of free blogging sites such as Blogger.com anyone can blog. Businesses use them to discuss news or promote wares, and families use them to keep in touch. Through blogs we can read political and religious perspectives or learn about the latest software. We can enjoy humorous anecdotes and observe personal struggles. Some bloggers use their online journals as confessionals detailing weight loss chronicles or battles with serious illness, while others use them to boast of personal achievements. There are even people who blog professionally.
Personal Touches:

Most serious bloggers work hard at making their blog pages reflective of their personalities and the content matter. It's such creativity that makes their blogs stand out above the others. How much time and effort you put into your blog is entirely up to you, but it's the personal touches that make readers come back for more.

Whether you're a blogger or a blog reader, you're sure to agree. Blogs are an enjoyable way to learn about the world around us.

I like the quote of above. YES, blog is an enjoyable way to learn about the world around us. It could connected us to people worldwide. It is something beneficial can be grab with new trend of internet worlds.

Ad Placement in Program Policies

OK, lets looked at how much google ads you can put in 1 pages? See below for highlight words

-Up to three ad units may be displayed on each page.
-A maximum of two Google AdSense for search boxes may be placed on a page.
-A single link unit may also be placed on each page.
-Up to two referral units from each referral product or offering may be displayed on a page, in addition to the ad units, search boxes, and link units specified above.

-AdSense for search results pages may show only a single ad link unit in addition to the ads -Google serves with the search results. No other ads may be displayed on your search results page.
-No Google ad or Google search box may be displayed in a pop-up, pop-under, or in an email.
-Elements on a page must not obscure any portion of the ads.
-No Google ad may be placed on any non-content-based pages.
-No Google ad may be placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant.

Then, basically there is 3+1+(referralx2). Even when you put more on a sigle page, only stated qty of ads will be display. My advice is, follow the rules given!

Before any further, lets briefly go thru Google AdSense Program Policies

If you already have account with Adsense, please do not misslooked at the Program Policies.

Failure to comply with this policy may lead to your account being disabled. What is that means? Thats means your account will be terminated, your earning will be hold, you will not ever get your earning anymore, PLUS you cannot join Adsense program anymore! So, beware and take not of this.

Lets look at a few items on their Program Policies.

Invalid Clicks and Impressions

Clicks on Google ads must result from genuine user interest. Any method that artificially generates clicks or impressions on your Google ads is strictly prohibited. These prohibited methods include but are not limited to repeated manual clicks or impressions, using robots, automated click and impression generating tools, third-party services that generate clicks or impressions such as paid-to-click, paid-to-surf, autosurf, and click-exchange programs, or any deceptive software. Please note that clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited. Failure to comply with this policy may lead to your account being disabled.

Look at the bold items above : Please note that clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited. Strictly follow as google had stated in their policies. If you really love google adsense program, dont click on your own ads. Also, I want to highlight a few item which is i am not very clear of what does its means; paid-to-click, paid-to-surf, autosurf, and click-exchange programs

Encouraging clicks

Your site must not encourage people to click your adsense ads. Do you understand of what thats means? Yes, I am sure you do. Do not put phrase some sort of :"PLEASE CLICK HERE" or "IF YOU DO NOT CLICK, I WILL KILL YOU" (just kidding)..:) , or "CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO". Whatever words, which encouraging people to click your adsense ads, PLEASE do not use. See Below again from their policies page :

May not encourage users to click the Google ads by using phrases such as "click the ads," "support us," "visit these links," or other similar language
May not direct user attention to the ads via arrows or other graphical gimmicks
May not place misleading images alongside individual ads
May not promote sites displaying ads through unsolicited mass emails or unwanted advertisements on third-party websites
May not compensate users for viewing ads or performing searches, or promise compensation to a third party for such behavior
May not place misleading labels above Google ad units - for instance, ads may be labeled "Sponsored Links" but not "Favorite Sites"

So, how about site content? I think its clear enough for all of us understand the guideline by google.View a list of supported languages.

Sites displaying Google ads may not include:

Violent content, racial intolerance, or advocacy against any individual, group, or organization
Pornography, adult, or mature content
Hacking/cracking content
Illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia
Excessive profanity
Gambling or casino-related content
Content regarding programs which compensate users for clicking on ads or offers, performing searches, surfing websites, or reading emails
Excessive, repetitive, or irrelevant keywords in the content or code of web pages
Deceptive or manipulative content or construction to improve your site's search engine ranking, e.g., your site's PageRank
Sales or promotion of weapons or ammunition (e.g., firearms, fighting knives, stun guns)
Sales or promotion of beer or hard alcohol
Sales or promotion of tobacco or tobacco-related products
Sales or promotion of prescription drugs
Sales or promotion of products that are replicas or imitations of designer goods
Sales or distribution of term papers or student essays
Any other content that is illegal, promotes illegal activity, or infringes on the legal rights of others

Site and Ad Behavior

Sites showing Google ads should be easy for users to navigate and should not contain excessive pop-ups. AdSense code may not be altered, nor may standard ad behavior be manipulated in any way that is not explicitly permitted by Google.

Sites showing Google ads may not contain pop-ups or pop-unders that interfere with site navigation, change user preferences, or initiate downloads.
Any AdSense code must be pasted directly into webpages without modification. AdSense participants are not allowed to alter any portion of the code or change the behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads. For instance, clicks on Google ads may not result in a new browser window being launched.
A site or third party cannot display our ads, search box, search results, or referral buttons as a result of the actions of any software application such as a toolbar.
No AdSense code may be integrated into a software application.
Webpages containing AdSense code may not be loaded by any software that can trigger pop-ups, redirect users to unwanted websites, modify browser settings, or otherwise interfere with site navigation. It is your responsibility to ensure that no ad network or affiliate uses such methods to direct traffic to pages that contain your AdSense code.
Referral offerings must be made without any obligation or requirement to end users. Publishers may not solicit email addresses from users in conjunction with AdSense referral units.
